Brainlings by Paula Araujo
Directed by Brodie Greenhalgh
Starring George Harris, Bridget Ward, Peter Wood & Shannon Maugham
Brainlings is a show designed for children 9-14, and acts as an introduction to the discussion of mental health.
"If we can educate children to understand mental health and identify characteristics of mental illness, they can navigate what is already a difficult stage of life armed with the understanding they need to take care of themselves in a way only they have the power to do. If we can foster understanding and support within communities, we can make sure kids seek and receive help sooner."- Paula Araujo, on the purpose of Brainlings.
Paula has a Bachelor of Creative Arts in Theatre and Acting, a Post-Graduate Certificate in Creative Industries, and has achieved a membership to the Golden Key International Honour Society for her results. In creating 'Brainlings', she has consulted with academics, mental health professionals, and artists. A variety of resources have been drawn upon including those surrounding neuroscience, national curriculum, personal experience, and mental health procedures. Various stages of the work have been presented for formal assessment as well as peer review.
Share House worked in collaboration with Paula from early 2017 to produce a reading of the work to an audience of theatremakers, teachers, and peers in June 2017.
